Are you an experienced editor with a strong passion for investigative and accountability journalism? Do you have a commitment to mentoring and supporting the growth of women in media?
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), with funding from the European Union through International Media Support, is seeking to engage an experienced Editor to support a cohort of five (5) female journalists participating in a 12-month mentorship programme.
This initiative is part of the activities under the project titled “African Media Integrity and Resilience Programme,” which seeks to strengthen ethical journalism, counter disinformation, and promote gender inclusion in the media landscape.
Editor’s Role
The Editor will provide editorial guidance and mentorship support to the fellows throughout the 12-months fellowship programme.
Key Responsibilities
a) Mentor the fellows on story development, research, and investigative techniques
b) Support the fellows in refining story angles, structure, and narrative clarity
c) Provide editorial oversight for all investigative stories produced by the fellows
d) Support the publication process, including fellows’ newsroom attachment with the MFWA’s Independent Journalism (IJ) Project, The Fourth Estate
Eligibility
a) Minimum of 5–7 years of editorial experience in journalism
b) Strong background in governance, accountability reporting, or public interest journalism
c) Demonstrated experience in mentoring or coaching journalists
d) Excellent editing, writing and storytelling skills
e) Strong commitment to gender inclusion and ethical journalism practices
f) Must be available for the full duration of the fellowship programme; July 2026 to June 2027
