In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 37 freedom of expression violations were recorded. This figure is two more than the 35 cases documented in the previous quarter (October–December 2024). At the time of compiling this report, most of the violations had not been redressed.
Burkina Faso recorded the highest number of cases with nine violations, followed by Ghana with eight and Mauritania with four. Nigeria, Benin, Sierra Leone, and Guinea each recorded three violations. Mali documented two cases, while The Gambia and Senegal each reported one.
