Citizens involvement in local governance is essential to building strong participatory system of governance. In many districts across Ghana, citizens’participation in local governance has often manifested in citizen-authority engagements such as community forums.
This Policy Brief thus highlights the prevailing local governance practices and challenges associated with effective participation of citizens in local governance activities in the Wa Municipality, Lawra, Sissala East, Wa East and Wa West Districts in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
