2014 started out as a challenging year with the outbreak of the Ebola Virus in some west African countries. This required an urgent response from civil society and the international community alike. The Media Foundation, with help from the World Health Organization and other partners set up the Ebola Information Centre (EIC) as part of efforts to provide an information resource on prevention and management of the disease.
On issues of violations of free expression, 100 cases were also recorded across all 16 countries in the region. Details of the above and several other issues that occurred in the year are captured in this document.
