The Guinean Association of Independent Press Publishers (AGEPI) has elected a new executive board to lead the association for the next three years.
The election was held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the House of the Press in Minière, in the commune of Dixinn, Conakry. Seven members were elected; namely: Aboubacar Soumah, President; Mouctar Diallo, Vice President; Daouda Yansané, Secretary General; and Alseny Koke Camara, Treasurer. The rest are Chérif Djiba Sano, Head of Communications; Naby Camara, Training Secretary; and Mamadou Misbaou Diallo, Secretary in charge of External Relations.
The election process was conducted and certified by a bailiff, in the presence of Amadou Touré, Commissioner of the High Authority for Communication (HAC), and Hassane Kaba, former president of AGEPI and current Director-General of Maison de la Presse (MDP)
Outgoing president, Aminata Camara, used the occasion to reflect on her mandate and thank members of the association for their support throughout her tenure.
“I leave the presidency of AGEPI with emotion but without regret. I have served with honesty, commitment and love for this profession of ours. I leave with the certainty of having done my best in a difficult context to preserve what is essential. May AGEPI continue to thrive, may it regain its strength, unity and influence, and may the independent Guinean press remain strong, free and responsible,” she said.
Aboubacar Soumah ran as president unopposed and was duly elected. In his first remarks as head of the association, he acknowledged the scale of the challenges confronting both the organisation and the wider media sector.
“I am aware of the immense task that awaits us. By entrusting me with the destiny of our association through this unanimous vote, you have chosen stability and unity. I accept this mandate with humility and with total determination to serve our common cause,” he declared.
Samuah pledged to place unity and collective action the cornerstone of his leadership. “A new chapter begins today, and it will be written with everyone, without exception. My mandate will be one of renewed cohesion and active solidarity. I pledge to lead a team of mission and action, because the challenges facing the print media cannot be met through fragmentation,” he added.
