The Gambia Press Union (GPU), in partnership with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the USAID Senegal, has organised an 8-day training for 95 journalists and media workers on the theme, “Building Media Capacity: Principles of Election Reporting Training”.
The training was aimed at building the capacity of journalists on election coverage, including on the ethics of election reporting. The training also included modules on conflict-sensitive reporting and hate speech so as to adequately prepare the journalists on the ethics and rules of election reporting. Journalists would also be trained on how to de-escalate the tension that comes with elections.
