ECOWAS Heads of State have resolved to strengthen research, training and experience sharing in the fight against COVID-19.
This was contained in a communiqué issued by the ECOWAS Commission after an Extraordinary Session on how to combat COVID-19.
Member States were also urged to make their contribution to the African Union Solidarity Fund to “strengthen cooperation between the African CDC and the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) in order to make support to the ECOWAS member states more effective; “
The ECOWAS Commission since the outbreak of the pandemic in the sub region has supported Member States with thousands of personal protective equipment and prescription tables (Chloroquine and Azithromycin).
The Commission also recognized the economic impact of the pandemic on the region and urged members to develop a joint plan on post pandemic economic recovery.
