The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has scheduled its fourth annual 2020 edition of the West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) for October 22-24.
This follows a successful two-day conference and award ceremony during the 2019 edition, which hosted over 300 journalists, editors, heads of election management bodies, senior security officers, academics and civil society organisations across West Africa and beyond.
WAMECA 2020 will be the fourth since its inauguration in 2017 and will be held on the theme: The Future of Journalism in Africa.
The West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards is an initiative of the MFWA to promote media excellence in the sub region. The Conference brings together journalists, media experts, editors, academics, freedom of expression advocates and high-profile personalities from across West Africa and beyond to deliberate on key challenges to media development and explore ways to support the media to promote good governance, regional integration and peace in West Africa.
The Awards Ceremony, which crowns the event, honours journalists in West Africa who have produced compelling works that are positively impacting lives in society.
