Equal Voices: Promoting gender equality in the media in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) in partnership with the Paris-based Canal France International (CFI) is implementing a two-year project aimed at supporting gender equality in the media and promoting, through media, a better representation of women, as experts and agents of change.
Titled the Equal Voices’ project, the main objective is to combat gender inequalities and stereotypes and promote women at all levels of responsibility in Ivorian and Ghanaian societies through gender-aware and gender-sensitive media. More specifically, the project seeks to strengthen the capacities of eight selected media organisations in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire to promote, through their managerial, editorial policies and practices, a better and more balanced gender representation.
Key activities under the project include Peer-to-peer/Coaching/Mentorship programme for selected media managers. This will provide the platform for media managers to identify challenges and opportunities in terms of gender equality in their media organisations, set goals and put in place the tools and actions to achieve these goals; as well as a series of Capacity building programmes for 16 selected journalists in gender equality and women empowerment with coaching for story development sessions.
Key Project Beneficiaries will include eight (8) media organisations (4 in Ghana and 4 in Côte d’Ivoire); Eight (8) media managers from the eight selected media organisations (one manager per media: an editorial manager or a person exercising management or HR functions) participating in the peer-to-peer programmes; and 16 journalists from the eight selected media organisations (two journalists per media) participating in several pieces of training workshops.
This call is open to all types of media organisations – radio, television, print or online media organisations located either in Ghana or Cote d’Ivoire.
