Daouda Bah, a presenter with Guinea’s national television channel RTG, has sustained damage to his left eye after being violently assaulted by demonstrators in Conakry on August 25, 2025. Daouda Bah was riding his motorbike home from work when a group of young protesters intercepted him on Avenue Le Prince in the Bomboly district.
Witnesses said the assailants seized his motorbike and, as he identified himself as a journalist, one attacker stabbed him in the left eye, causing an injury that resulted in the permanent loss of the eye. He was rushed to Donka Hospital, where he remains in serious condition while receiving treatment. Guinea’s Minister of Information and Communication has visited the hospital and condemned the attack as “an inadmissible act,” pledging that the authorities would investigate.
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) strongly condemns this brutal assault and urges the Guinean authorities to conduct a full and impartial investigation, bring the perpetrators to justice, and provide stronger protection for journalists and other citizens at risk of violence.
