Ghana: Police initiates investigations into assault against journalist

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) commends the Ghana Police Service for its swift response in launching investigations into the assault on Latif Iddrisu, a JoyNews journalist.

Iddrisu was attacked on May 27, 2025 while reporting live from the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following the arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chariman Wontumi.

According to a press statement released on Wednesday, May 28 2025, from the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, investigators are reviewing video evidence and eyewitness testimonies to identify those responsible for the attack. The police further reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rights of all individuals, including journalists, and maintaining the rule of law in their operations.

While commending the Ghana Police for the swift launch of investigations into the assault, the MFWA urges the police to ensure that those found culpable are prosecuted to deter others from such repressive acts.
