On July 27, 2025, a statement from the Ivorian public prosecutor, Koné Braman Oumar, announced the death of the Burkinabe activist, Alain Christophe Traoré, while in detention in Côte d’Ivoire.
“He was found dead, hanged in detention on Thursday, July 24, 2025,” the statement said.
Known by many as an activist with about 420,000 following on Facebook, Alain Christophe Traoré, also known as Alino Faso, had been living in Côte d’Ivoire since 2021 when he settled in the country. Until his arrest by Ivorian law enforcement officials on January 10, 2025, he was known for his Pro-Ibrahim Traore commentary on social media.
Following the announcement of the death of Alino Faso by the Ivorian authorities, a complaint was filed by the influencer’s family with the Attorney General of Burkina Faso. The latter, subsequently announced in a statement that a judicial investigation has been opened into the case.
The MFWA calls for a transparent investigation into the death of the activist who served as a source of information for his followers.
