The Ivorian media regulator, Conseil national de la Presse (CNP) has lifted sanctions against the LG Infos daily. The decision, which was announced on January 13, follows an appeal for review by the publishers of the newspaper, Cyclone Ltd.
The decision means that the suspension on January 4, 2016 of the LG Infosnewspaper has been suspended “with effect from the day it is communicated to the Publishers’ legal representative.”
The MFWA correspondent in Cote d’Ivoire says the paper has returned to the stands since January 14.
The newspaper was earlier suspended for seven editions at the beginning of December 2016 for publishing “false information.” The accusation refers to the paper’s presentation of former First Lady, Simone Gbagbo, her son ex-aide de camp, Séka Yapo Anselme and former minister Hubert Oulaye, as political prisoners. The three are standing trial at The Hague, together with ex-President Laurent Gbagbo on charges of committing war crimes. On its return to the newsstand on December 17, LG Info repeated the publication, and was again suspended on January 4, 2017 for fourteen editions.
