In 2025, the Media Foundation for West Africa continued to advance press freedom, accountable governance, and social justice across the region despite mounting threats to journalists.
We turned journalism into measurable change; from investigative exposés that triggered forensic audits, prosecutions, and legislative reform in Ghana, to strengthening journalist safety and media ethics in Guinea-Bissau. The year marked significant progress.
Our flagship accountability journalism project, The Fourth Estate, drove tangible governance outcomes including the suspension of a compromised national service database, revised loss estimates exceeding GH¢2 billion, and the passage of the Ghana Scholarships Act.
We also deepened our regional partnerships with ECOWAS to strengthen information integrity across eight member states, advanced digital rights and online safety for women journalists in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, and equipped journalists to report on illicit financial flows, domestic revenue mobilisation and fiscal justice.
