The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), is inviting applications from young journalism graduates, early career journalists and other young professionals with a passion for journalism in Ghana to participate in the 9th edition of the Next Generation Investigative Journalism (NGIJ) Fellowship.
The fellowship is focused on accountability journalism and anti-corruption reporting.
It forms part of activities being implemented by the MFWA under the project titled, “Countering corruption through accountability journalism and improved freedom of expression environment in Ghana”. The project falls under the Participation, Accountability, Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) programme, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-financed by the EU and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance.
Overall, the project seeks to strengthen the capacity of the media, especially investigative journalists, to produce investigative reports corruption – related issues and promote accountability that addresses socio-economic disparities. The project further seeks to promote an improved environment for press freedom and freedom of expression in Ghana.
The three-month, fully funded residential program will equip 10 selected journalists/young professionals with hands-on training in investigative journalism, use of the Right to Information Law, Data Journalism, Fact Checking and other relevant topics.
What to Expect
1. Training on Anti-corruption and Accountability Reporting, RTI Law, Data Journalism and Fact Checking etc.
2. Mentorship and practical training with the MFWA’s Independent Journalism Projects: Fact-Check Ghana and The Fourth Estate.
3. Financial and editorial support to produce at least one key investigative/in-depth story and contribute to producing a group story.
4. A Certificate of Honour upon successful completion.
5. Monthly stipend.
Eligibility
1. Open to journalism graduates, early-career journalists and young professionals with a passion for journalism.
2. Applicants must commit to full participation in the residential program (from September to November 2026).
3. Females and journalists outside the Greater Accra Region are encouraged to apply.

2.Two published news articles (print, TV, radio, or online) for journalists or a published blog post for other professionals.
3. Letter of consent from your employer (for staff journalists).
4.CV with two referees.
