Ghanaweb.com is the highest offender of ethical media principles in the month of April. The news website which topped the list of the ethical violations in March maintained the same position in April with 101 violations.
In the first two weeks of April (April 1-15), Ghanaweb.com topped with 46 violations out of the 91 recorded for the period. The news website also recorded 55 out of 95 violations in the last week of the month of April (April 16-30).
Pro-partisan radio stations Power FM and Oman FM followed the news website. Pro-NDC Powe FM recorded 39 violations while Pro-NPP Oman FM recorded 21 violations in the month.
During the period, principles of the Good Taste and Public Sensibilities and Decency were the most abused. Again, the news website Ghanaweb.com violated these principles the most, recording 50 and 43 violations respectively.
These findings were observed in the media ethics monitoring report for the month of April by the Media Foundation for West Africa.
The MFWA’s media ethics monitoring activity is part of the organisation’s project on Enhancing media professionalism to inspire public confidence and support for press freedom in Ghana, which is being implemented with funding support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
