As part of efforts towards peaceful elections in Ghana, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) will on Thursday, October 22, 2020, hold a National Forum on ‘Media and the 2020 Elections in Ghana’.
The Forum will bring together key stakeholders in the electoral ecosystem including the Electoral Commission (EC), the Ghana Police Service, political parties, security agencies, UN agencies, civil society organisations and the media.
Participants will deliberate on issues regarding media professionalism, safety of journalists, and the role of the media in contributing to peaceful elections. Key institutions such as the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service will also share their work with the media, preparations they have made so far, as well as, measures adopted to facilitate the media’s role in promoting peaceful elections.
The National Forum scheduled to take place at Alisa Hotel at 9:30am, forms part of MFWA’s project on Improving Media Professionalism and Safety of Journalists Situation in Ghana. The forum is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
